Germany Officially Joins the Common Armoured Vehicle System Programme

Finnish Patria Teams Up with German DSL and FFG to Offer German Variant

CAVS Programme Aims to Create a New European Armoured Vehicle

The Finnish land systems specialist Patria, along with German defence suppliers DSL (a KNDS subsidiary) and FFG, have announced their collaboration to offer a German variant of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS). The CAVS programme, initially established by Finland and Latvia and later joined by Sweden and Germany, is a joint initiative of several European governments to develop a new armoured vehicle.

The technical arrangement for the CAVS was officially signed on April 17, 2023. The new vehicle, alongside the Boxer, will replace the TPz Fuchs and M113 armoured personnel carriers. However, as of November 2023, the replacement of the M113 has yet to be finalised.

Germany's official entry into the CAVS programme through the signing of the Technical Arrangement marks a significant milestone. Sweden, which joined the programme in 2022, has now also signed the Technical Arrangement. The development of the CAVS is expected to accelerate with the combined efforts of these European defence industry leaders.
