Madrid overcame a 1-0 deficit on the night and 5-3 on aggregate with three goals in extra time
Real Madrid has improbably, impossibly, and somewhat unbelievably overcome Manchester City 3-1 in extra time to reach the Champions League final.
Trailing 1-0 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate heading into the 90th minute after Riyad Mahrez's 73rd-minute goal looked set to send City to their second successive Champions League final, Madrid pulled off an incredible comeback.
Rodrygo's goals in the 90th and 91st minutes forced extra time at the Santiago Bernabeu, before Karim Benzema's penalty in the 95th minute completed the comeback and sent Madrid to the final.
The result was a stunning turnaround after Manchester City had dominated much of the match and looked to have done enough to reach the final. But this is Real Madrid, a club that has a long history of unbelievable comebacks.
They are now seeking to win a remarkable 14th Champions League title when they face Liverpool in the final in Paris on May 28.
After the game, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said: "This team has a lot of heart and soul. We never give up, and we always believe." "This is a special night for the club and for the fans. We are very proud of the players," he added. "We know that we have a lot of work to do, but we are confident that we can win the final."
