Argentina Captain Suffers Non Contact Injury In Second Half

Messi limps off with ankle injury in Copa America final

Argentina captain suffers non-contact injury in second half

Messi's quest for second Copa America title continues despite injury concerns

Argentina captain Lionel Messi limped off with an apparent ankle injury in the second half of their Copa America final against Colombia on Sunday.

The injury occurred in the 36th minute of the first half when Messi was tackled by Colombia defender Yerry Mina. Messi initially tried to play through the pain, but he was eventually forced to leave the field in the 64th minute.

Messi's injury is a major blow to Argentina's hopes of winning their first Copa America title since 2015. The 34-year-old is Argentina's all-time leading scorer and he has been in excellent form in this tournament, scoring four goals in six games.

Argentina will now have to face Colombia in the final without their captain. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday night.
